The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Well a cloudy stormy day. Rained or it snowed. I done up the regular work. We got ready, went up to Dawn’s for dinner. A very good turkey dinner. Hortons, Fern and we were invited. Had a nice time. She has a very nice home. She still has some more to do but she’s done very well.

A quite nice day. A lot of sun, some clouds and snow squalls. There was a northwesterly wind. The clothes dried very good. Bill and Ilan fishing. Betty done up her work. Then went to coffee group. Came home, got Carmen, took her for her doctors appointment at Fryeberg then they went up to New Hampshire to get cat food for the shelter. Then as soon as supper she went to a meeting over to Harrison. Kim, the smart girl, got supper. She gets many of their meals.

Well it has been quite a nice sunny day. On the cool side. I done some odd jobs. Down to Fern’s, took her to town. She put her insurance check in the bank from Lloyd. I watched my TV programs in PM. Carmen down to hospital looking for a job. Dawn also. In evening we heard a heavy boom, plane no doubt.
