The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 18 - 20, 1976 Easter Sunday

Easter Flowers

Sunday, April 18, 1976 a very nice hot Easter, Carmen asthma attack, to hospital for treatment

It was a very nice hot summerlike day. I changed beds, did a big wash, cleaned up the house, got a Easter dinner. Ham, salad, spinach greens, hot cross buns, lemon sponge and chocolate with cream pie etc. the usual. The Horton family was our guest. Betty and the two kids, Zak and Kim, called on their way home from church to show us their clothes. They both looked so very nice in their new clothes. (Nice-looking kids). Jeffrey and a girlfriend called a little while. We ate dinner outside, it was so nice eating out. Fern and Lloyd came up, we had dessert. Carmen had asthma attack this morning and went down to the hospital for treatment.  In late p.m. another one and went again. ZAK had company tonight, he is so pleased. Vince came over to stay all night with him.

Monday, April 19, 1976 Billie very bad stomach trouble

It has been a very nice sunny and mild day. I done a lot of washing. Also did a big big ironing. Bill and I went down to Dorothea’s. Kimmy went with us. We took the towels down Billie gave her. She was very pleased with them. I’ve been very busy all day. Kimmy up here to stay all night because Bill will take her to meeting the bus in the morning to go to the circus. Walt didn’t work, a holiday.

Tuesday, April 20, 1976 Kim to the circus

A very nice day, not quite as hot. I cleaned the bureau draws in the bedroom. Also a few other odds and end jobs. Robert called in a.m. Bill took Kimmy down to the elementary school early this morning to meet the bus. The fourth grade went to the Shriner Circus in Portland. She enjoyed it. She got quite tired. Bill worked down in the lower end of the pasture smoothing it off. Billie is a dite better. He suffered a lot past two days. I was late about supper tonight. After supper Betty, Carmen and Kim came up and Esther and I went with them up to Ames. Betty got a lot of things. I got a few things.
