The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 18 - 21, 1976 Chet to the Hospital

Wednesday, February 18, 1976 RAIN AND SNOW

 

It snowed all day, turned to rain last part of day and evening. I done regular work. Except I had Zak while Betty was to her meeting. In p.m. Carmen came up to stay all night.

 

 

 

Thursday, February 19, 1976 Bob came home

 

Partly cloudy. I done regular work. Cleaned some kitchen draws, cupboards, stove and defrosted refrigerator and washed. Bill plowed all morning. Carmen went to town with Betty to do Lloyd’s shopping. She didn’t come back for supper because she had company.

 

 

 

Friday, February 20, 1976

 

A nice sunny day. I went to town early. Kimmy came here today. She had a good time, is staying all night. Betty and kids went down to Gray and Windham today. I cleaned up the house, washed windows etc.

 

 

 

Saturday, February 21, 1976 Chet to hospital tonight

 

A mild day, kind of cloudy. Kim up here today. We put the puzzle together and started another one. David called Billie. He had him come down town to talk to him. He is very much upset and shook up about Dorothea, the divorce etc. also her going out, he don’t like it. He wants her back. He is going to try and get her to come back to him. I didn’t do any cooking but baked some beans. Betty called. Mrs. Swett called Billie this evening. She had taken Chet to the hospital, his lungs are all filled up. He is quite sick. Billie went up to see Chet tonight early or late p.m.
