The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

May 6 - 9, 1968

Monday, May 6, 1968

Partly cloudy and still cool. I washed. Clothes dried good. I did some of the picking up down cellar. I washed some of the windows down cellar. Bill and Billie worked in the garage in evening.

Tuesday, May 7, 1968

I finished cleaning the cellar. I made a pie. Billie brought home the pig. We cut it and wrapped it for the deep-freeze. I did a big ironing after supper. Bill painted the floor last coat of paint tonight. I did a lot of odds and end jobs.

Wednesday May 8, 1968

It has been a pretty good day. I washed all the windows, got the screens all on. It has been a real warm day. Aunt Ava had company for her birthday today, for she and Uncle Lewis together.

Thursday, May 9, 1968

A nice sunny day, real mild. We had all the windows open. I defrosted the refrigerator, settled the porch, cleaned all the furniture that goes on it. Barbara Stanford and some of the boys called tonight. Bill and Billie working on the last pasture gate.
