The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Rain Rain and Rain. I finished looking over the papers. Done regular work. Betty called, they are coming again this weekend and Walt is going to see about a job. Billie and I called at Ferns in evening.

Another miserable day. I washed anyway. I called Jean and talked. No school today, BHS graduation. I had to get my clothes in, they weren’t dry. More rain coming.

Friday, June 14, 1968 DAVE HOME

Beautiful day. I did up my work, washed, cooked and washed windows. Got ready for the Horton family tonight. Busy all day. I went to town before supper and then as soon as supper. Called at Ferns a little while. Got some cups and saucers she gave me. Dave came home from the service today. The Thomas family got here about 9:30 PM. Got supper for them. Carmen and Kim so excited. I hung my clothes back out and got them dried. Did my ironing.

Saturday, June 15, 1968

A pretty good day. I got the beans in. Didn’t do any cooking. Billie down country with Lawrence. Betty and I talked. Joy came, she and Betty over to Fryeburg, got a tree for Father’s Day. Kids had a good time. Fern up for supper. Walt to Portland to see Bob Winslow about some computer work. Didn’t get home until very late. Kids couldn’t get to sleep very easy.
