The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

May 22 - 25, 1968

Wednesday, May 22, 1968

Partly cloudy day. Some sunshine. I checked my dresses, got them measured etc. I called on Mrs. Stanford. In evening Dot, Lorraine and Wanda Jean called. I got things picked up and ready for the trip to Ohio. Bill and Billie worked on the doorsteps.

Thursday, May 23, 1968

I done up my work, finished hemming those dresses. Got letters from Dorothea and Esther. In evening I called on Aunt Ava and Uncle Lewis. Bill worked on his doorsteps.

Friday, May 24,  1968

A very nice sunny day, hot. I washed, went to town with Fern, Lloyd. Got my glasses straightened. Fern got her new glasses. I came home, washed windows, made beds, got clothes in. Made my beds, got my ironing done. Bill and I to town after supper. Then we went down to see Doney’s place. He came up here. Called at Ferns. Got our clothes that had been down there for nearly a year.

Saturday, May 25, 1968

Sunny, on the cool windy side. I replanted my little ivy plant there over my sink. Billie had to work today because he will have a day off next week. Bill hauled some bricks and cement blocks with Lloyd’s truck. He worked on flower garden round the breezeway. Fern up for supper. Billie took me to town. I got some things for the trip.
