The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 16 - 18, 1968

Sunday, June 16, 1968

We got up, nice day. We made plans and preparations for a place cookout. Betty made two delicious salads. Carmen and Kim are excited and pleased about the cookout. We had a good time. Bill, Walt and Betty watched ballgame. Later Dorothea and family called, they too had rest of the cookout dinner. Betty and Walt stayed to visit little while longer with the Thomases. Jeff stayed overnight. Fern and Lloyd called. Betty and Walt called at Aunt Ava’s and Uncle Lewis’s and Joy and Bob’s. Bill got two pretty shirts and cards for Father’s Day. Billie gave him a weathervane and electric drill previously.

Another rainy miserable day. I got the work done up. Billie to the dentist. Jeff had a good time today. Randy and he played together about all day. In late p.m. Jeff got hit in the mouth with a baseball bat. It broke his tooth. It hurts him awfully. After supper Bill and Billie took the pump out and we took it down to Lakeside Plumbing. Got a fix. We also took Jeff home. Dave back to work after two weeks training in the Army. Walt had an important appointment today. Carmen to Bible School today.

A mixed up day weatherwise. I got my work done up. Moved rest of things out of living room. Cleaned all the floors up. They came about 11 and began to lay the living room rug. At 4 o’clock had it all done. It looks so very nice. Bobby and Bill Stanford called.
