The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

May 13 - 15, 1968

A nice day, sunny and not much wind. I washed. Bill and Carmen planted most of the garden. Bill got the cement wall in under the breezeway for the steps. Carmen has been happy playing around here today. I gave the house a cleaning up. Didn’t get up very early this morning.

A beautiful day. Very sunny and hot. Bill and I with Carmen took Fern to Portland to get her shoes, also she did a few other things. We had hamburgers at McDonald’s. Came out called at Dorothea’s. Home about 2:30. The car runs good, it is a good car. Carmen had a good time.

Hot. A very nice hot and sunny day. I didn’t get up very early. After we got up, Bill got ready and went down and helped Dorothea to paper a bedroom. I did up my work and Carmen and I walked up to Ken and Dolores’s. Came home, I did a big ironing. Bill didn’t get home from Dorothea’s until about 5:30. She was glad he came down. Mark up and played with Carmen. She and I sat up the croquet set. Norm came up with Mark on the bike.
