The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 18 - 20, 1968

Thursday, April 18, 1968

It was nice and sunny in a.m. and mild. I got rest of my kitchen cleaned. Gordon came up early. The men from Sears didn’t come until late to lay the rugs. All they got was the two-bedroom rugs done. The living room one has got to go back, it didn’t fit. Fern, Lloyd called also Sal and Mrs. Clark. Got cloudy in p.m. Billie home early. He hauled rest of the manure. He raked after supper, it looks so nice.

Friday, April 19, 1968 Rugs

Today Sears Roebuck and Co finished laying the rugs. They are very pretty and the work is well done. It is the making of the house. It has been a beautiful day. Gordon came back after supper. He did a few odds and end jobs. Tonight Betty, Walt and girls came for weekend. I didn’t do much today with the guys putting the rugs down.

It has been cloudy and rainy most all day. Betty and Walt went to Cumberland and around the Joy and Buddy looking for a place for them to live. In p.m. they came home and we got ready and went to Norway and because of Walt we bought all of the curtains, shades and drapes for this house. Came home, had supper and Walt put them all up. He knows just all about everything. They look so nice.
