The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 24 - 26, 1968 HOUSE IS DONE!

Wednesday, April 24, 1968 Cupboard doors

Rain, it has rained all day. Gordon here today and worked on the cupboard doors. I did my ironing, cleaned some varnish off doorknobs etc. Cleaned paintbrushes. Gordon came back tonight and worked on rest of the doors. Put on hinges, latches and knobs. It has rained hard all day and tonight it is raining very hard. This house is beautiful. Lloyd called today.

Thursday, April 25, 1968 HOUSE DONE

It was cloudy and showery in a.m. but cleared about 10 or 10:30. Gordon came, he finished the cupboard doors. I sanded the doors. It looks so much better with all the doors on. In evening Gordon came back and finished all he has to do. He will do the porches and window blinds during the summer. The house is well-built and is decorated very pretty and we have a nice brand-new home. And we like it very much. Gordon put up the weathervane on the garage tonight that Billie brought home. It looks nice. Gordon all finished, came and got tools and gone. We will miss him here days.
