The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 19 - 22, 1968

Tuesday, March 19, 1968 Mild

A mild day but very dreary rain. I did my work, made a pie. Fern and Lloyd called. Fern going to hospital for tests tomorrow. Gordon came this afternoon, he did some odds and end jobs, shelf in bathroom, a shelf in closet and a few other.

Wednesday, March 20, 1968 Mild

It was foggy, cloudy and partly fair. Had some sun, not enough to do any harm. I went to South Paris with Aunt Ava to get her dog vaccinated for rabies. Gordon came up here all day. He got a lot of the draws done.

Thursday, March 21, 1968 Mild

Partly cloudy day. A little sun. I did up the work, did some figuring. Ironed, washed and mended. Such awful miserable day. In evening Billie and I called at Ferns and Stanfords. Gordon didn’t work, went to a selectmen’s and town officials meeting at Gorham. Dorothea called in evening.

Friday, March 22, 1968

Another miserable day. In a.m. I went to town with Fern and Lloyd. I did some errands, made arrangements for Billie and Dave’s birthday. Gordon came today and he finished the draws and put a shelf and an open cupboard by side of my washer. In evening Bill and I to town grocery shopping. Came home, did a lot of picking up and getting the house tidied up for the arrival of Hortons. I called them at 11 o’clock and they hadn’t left. They are coming tomorrow.
