The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 15 - 18, 1968

Friday, March 15, 1968 6 Below

A nice clear day. I cleaned up the house. I worked at my desk etc. Watch the programs. Bill took me to town after supper. I spent very lightly tonight.

Saturday, March 16, 1968 CHRISTIE got RABBIE shot

Sunny and warm. Billie and I took Christie to Norway and got her rabies shot. Also exchanged the grout for the bathroom. We went to town, I got paint for living room hall and blue bathroom. Came home. Bill and Gordon working all p.m. It got cloudy. Fern and Lloyd called. Sally and Linda, also poor old Aunt Ava. She looks bad, is mixed up. No one here for supper but Bill, Billie and me.

Sunday, March 17, 1968

A miserable day, rained so hard all day. It is warmer. Gordon came up, they got the molding done, baseboards and the little cupboard in blue bathroom. Bill helped him. Water in the cellar. Billie slept in PM. Gordon got through at noon. Bill watch TV. I read old town reports. A dreary day. No one here except Gordon all day.

Monday, March 18, 1968

A dreary day. Raining, cloudy. I done up the work, made a pie. Washed some windows. Randy called. He and his father and mother are going up to Val’s. He has broken his leg. Bill called to get dry shoes. It has rained off and on all day. I did a lot of figuring bills etc.
