The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Mild today, on the cloudy side. Fern, Lloyd called. Betty called, talked with she and Carmen. They are getting their new windshield in today. Billie brought home more groceries tonight. I washed, swept, dusted. Busy doing odd end jobs. Billie over to Aunt Ava’s to take Fern home, she was up spending the evening with them.

In like a lion. A big blustery storm. It began last night about midnight. Snow and wind. I got my work done up, went to town with Lloyd. Got pills for Bill, groceries, went to the bank for Billie. Came home, did rest of housework. Watched programs. Got supper, had good fried chicken. Billie and I to town and got a few things at the store. Came home, watched TV till 11 PM.

A very nice mild day. I done up work, made rolls and a chocolate pie. Got ready for Thomas family. Billie and I washed his car windows. Billie down to Lawrence’s in p.m. Bill had two teeth out this forenoon. He suffered all afternoon and evening after the Novocain wore off. It was the most quiet here in this house it has ever been today. Bill resting, no radio on. I read papers, books etc. No Thomases here or Fern for supper. Bill ate soup. Bill got a new battery for car.
