The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 22 - 24, 1968

Thursday, February 22, 1968

Nice weather. Jeff seems to be having a good time. I enjoy him when he is here alone. He is so good. He was playing with the Stanford boys. They came up here. Christie(?) Binnie got into a bad fight. Jeff was so worried about Christie. She didn’t get hurt. Mrs. Stanford and Mark came up. We had supper and as soon as we got through the Horton’s came. A happy surprise. Jeff was pleased to see Carmen and Kim. But Bill and Billie began to holler at Jeff as they always do when someone else is around. He was undecided about things. He was excited to see everyone.

Walt up and to work today with Bob. Betty and I had her car. We went to town shopping etc. She and Joy also to town. After we got home she went over to Joy’s and got her hair cut and called on Bonnie and her mother. Came home, made a tuna fish casserole for supper. Very good. She got all the supper. We did quite a wash today. Walt got back from work about 7:30.

A beautiful day. I got up early, got Bill off to work. Took care of Kim. Billie got up and went down to Lawrence’s. They went down country etc. I madea cake, rolls, brown bread, baked beans. Betty and Walt lost their dog. She went off with Owen’s dog. Came back late in PM. Bill, Walt and Betty out hunting for her. Dorothea and Dave came in p.m., here for supper. Jeff went home, seemed glad to be going home. Fern here for supper. Bill, Carmen and Jeff down to Casco. Carmen outside and no asthma problems.
