The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

September 7 - 10, 1967


Thursday, September 7, 1967 nice day

It has been a very nice hot day. Clear and beautiful. I like this house  very much. Betty brought the kids up. She went to Concord to look for a place to live. She found a penny and it brought her good luck. They found one. She and Walt here late tonight. It is such a relief they have a place. Gordon up after supper and worked on the porch.




Friday, September 8, 1967 HOT

Gordon came today. Bill home in p.m. They got the garage along pretty good. Sally called. I have the kids. Betty came and took me to town. In p.m. Betty went to Concord to sign papers for the house they found yesterday. In evening Stanfords called. Mark Stanford here for supper. It has been a very nice hot day.



Saturday, September 9, 1967 HOT

A very hot day. Bill and Gordon worked in the afternoon on the garage. Betty and family here for supper. Also Fern. We sat out on the breezeway in evening. Billie worked in forenoon at Dialectic. Sally and Lynn called.



Sunday, September 10, 1967

Cold cold all day. Raining when we got up. It cleared off but awful cold and windy. I done up my work. Bill and Billie worked on the porch. Kay Fleck Maynard and two little children called. Also Helen. Kay is such a nice mother. She loves her girl and boy. They aren’t afraid. Dorothea and family, Fern, Lloyd called here for supper.
