The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

December 4 - 7, 1967

Monday, December 4, 1967

Very cold and windy all night. Awful hard blowing winds all night. I didn’t wash today, too cold and windy. I finished my Christmas cards. Gordon worked on the lavatory in the bathroom. Lloyd called. Bill came home for breakfast.

Tuesday, December 5, 1967 Called at Thomas and Adair’s

A nice day, mild and sunny and warm. I washed. Clothes dried good. Gordon and I went to Norway and down through to Plywood Barn at Windham. Got the tile ordered for bathroom over to Norway. Fern and Lloyd called. I had a good supper. Our last fowl cooked. Billie, Fern and I called at Dorothea, David’s and Jeff’s in evening.

Wednesday, December 6, 1967

A beautiful day. I went to town with Kennard. Got rinse for my hair. Gordon put the finish on the windows. I ironed and cooked a dite. Stanfords called in evening.

Thursday, December 7, 1967 Permanent

Cloudy all day. I got my permanent today. Lloyd took me over. Gordon didn’t do much today, started the other cupboards in kitchen. Didn’t do very much today. Apples came from Sanborn.
