The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Sunday, November 26, 1967 CHAIRS



Partly cloudy. Bill and Billie helped Dave and Dorothea move some household goods. Walt didn’t feel good today. Kim a dite better. Betty, Walt got ready and went back. Left Kim because Holly and two of her kids went up for a visit. Too much for Kim. Fern, Lloyd here. Our CHAIRS came back late this p.m.




Monday, November 27, 1967



Nice sunny and mild day. I done up my work, took care of Kim. She is much better. She is real cute all the time. She had a long nap. I did some washing. Gordon back today, he finished putting the blower in our electric stove. Got some finish on.





Tuesday, November 28, 1967 KIM is real good, feels better



Partly cloudy with high clouds, not so warm as yesterday. I did some washing. Gordon hung the back door. He started in the bathroom. Fern and Lloyd called. Betty and Carmen came and got Kim. She is feeling real good now. Betty did a dite of shopping in Portland.



Wednesday, November 29, 1967



A beautiful day, on the cold side. Gordon came, he worked in the bathroom. We went down to Lloyd’s in a.m. In p.m. we went to North Windham to see about bathroom fixtures. Didn’t get them. Dorothea called for a minute.
