The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Billie drove Nanny, Fern and Lloyd to Concord for a visit

Sunday, October 22, 1967 a nice day

This morning when we got up Billie and I got ready and went to Concord to visit the Horton family. Had a most delicious dinner and Betty took us out. Only one thing we didn’t see, little Kim. She is in the hospital very sick. Fern and Lloyd went. They both enjoyed the trip and visit very much. All liked the new home very much. Dave Thomas family here, Dorothea not at all good.

Monday, October 23, 1967 Got sink in kitchen

A beautiful day. I washed, clothes dried good. Lloyd called. LC Andrews delivered the door for breezeway. I cleaned up the house. Gordon came up and put the sink in the kitchen and hooked up the pipes. He also discovered a leak in the furnace. Called up the company, they delivered a new one. After supper they put the new one in. Sal called.

Tuesday, October 24, 1967 Called about Kim. She is improving. BEEF cattle went today

A beautiful day. Fern, Lloyd called. Gordon got the water to running in the sink. Got the washing machine faucet hooked up. Also got the large sliding aluminum door onto the breezeway. I picked over boxes, dishes etc. to get ready for cupboards. Bill took me to town to get the contact paper for cupboards and put it in after supper and put dishes in cupboards. Pete Thompson buried today. Called at Fern’s in evening.
