The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 2 - 5, 1967

Thursday, November 2, 1967

A nice day. Gordon working on wiring and switches. I picked up and cleaned up the house. I washed. In a.m. went to Norway with Fern and Lloyd, got a jacket for Bill. Kim didn’t have any nap today.

Friday, November 3, 1967

A nice day. Billie didn’t work. He got a lot of his outside work done, wall cleaned up, the garage and cellar. Picked up some. They, he and Gordon, got my new clothesline up. Gordon put on more wallboard and got some of the upper cupboards done in the kitchen. Bill took me to town after supper. My stomach feels like it is smarting or (?).

Saturday, November 4, 1967

Foggy sun came out. I washed, it began to rain in late p.m. Billie and Gordon got the cabinet in small bathroom in. Also got the installation on and wallboard. Billie got rest of garage done and cellar. Bill painted. Bill, Kim and I to town to get the rolls. Betty called. They are coming. They got here about 7 PM. Rained awful hard.

Sunday, November 5, 1967 Cold

A very nice day except it has been very cold. Carmen and Betty don’t feel very good. They left to go home about 4 PM. Fern, Lloyd, Charlie and Irma called. Mrs. Stanford called. Billie worked up to Chet’s. Bill painted. Walt worked on his car. Betty wrote out some recipes. Kim not here tonight, we miss her. Finished sawing Chet’s wood.
