The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

December 12 - 15, 1967

Tuesday, December 12, 1967 Rain

When we got up this morning it was raining so awful hard. We decided not to come to Maine. We didn’t do much. Betty did a big ironing. Kim fussy all day. Carmen watched TV. At noon we decided to go to Manchester in evening. We went, Carmen and Kim saw Santa. Carmen sat on his lap. We did some shopping at night. Very icy roads in Bridgton Maine. They said the town crew worked all night.

Dorothea was here. Billie home sick with flu. Betty and kids left to go back about one, got home at 3:30.

Thursday, December 14, 1967 Nice day

A nice sunny day, not too cold, windy. I washed, went down town with Ken and Dolores. Got a bunch of Christmas cards off, got rest of them ready to go. It is good to be home. I did a dite of shopping this morning.

Friday, December 15, 1967 Windy

A beautiful day, but very cold and awful winds. I went to Norway in a.m. to order ceiling material. Came home and I wrapped some gifts. In evening Billie and I went to Norway and S. Paris to do Billie’s shopping. Fern went with us. I went over in a.m. with Fern and Lloyd. Fern stopped in, we had or they had coffee, donuts and looked the gifts over.
