The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

September 11 - 14, 1967


Monday, September 11, 1967 slight frost this morning, HAIR SET

Very cold this morning. I done up my work, washed. Betty and kids came up. I got my hair set today.



Tuesday, September 12, 1967

A very nice day. I done up my work. Walt not to work. He and Betty called. Kim is sick with a tooth coming through, sore bottom and a headache and fatigue feeling. They worked on the garage and breezeway today and tonight.



Wednesday, September 13, 1967 a very nice day, Kim sick

A beautiful day. Betty, children and I up to East Concord New Hampshire to see the house they will get. Walt went to see about the loan. I hope he will get it. Kim not feeling at all good. Norman and Barbara Stanford called in evening. Very cold today.



Thursday, September 14, 1967 Hot

Lloyd and Fern called. I went to town with them. Fern and I got a wedding gift for Penny. I came home, had Kim all afternoon. Gordon here working on garage. HOT. A beautiful day. Gordon worked after supper. Billie help Norm Stanford with the hens.
