The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

October 1 - 4, 1967


Sunday, October 1, 1967 Cloudy

They graded the yards, put the pump into the cellar. Fern and Lloyd here. A man here (Ken Doherty) to see about Walt’s car. We gave them the Horton’s address. David, Dorothea and Jeff called in p.m. and here for supper. Robert here in p.m.



Monday, October 2, 1967

A nice cool fall day. Fern, Lloyd called, Gordon here, done some odd and end jobs. George Lowell called. Gordon ordered some plywood and sheet rock. I called at the Stanfords. She called here. I washed my clothes, dried good. I talked with Betty and girls today. They went to Newfield Fair yesterday.



Tuesday, October 3, 1967 Hot

A very nice day. I ironed. It is a beautiful summer like day. Lloyd painted on the garage. Gordon hauled  loam up from the field. I did a dite of cooking.



Wednesday, October 4, 1967 Summer day

A beautiful day. Lloyd painted garage. Gordon hauling loam for front yard. Joe Hatch and Rand here clearing out the Stonewall. Pete Sabasteanski  here showing samples of his floor coverings. I went over to Stanford’s cottage with Barbara. Very pretty ride. Very pretty on the lake. A beautiful summer like day. Got Dorothea’s card today.
