The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

October 29 - November 1, 1967

Sunday, October 29, 1967

A nice day. Gordon didn’t come. Bill worked on the lawn. Billie worked up to Chet’s. Fern and Lloyd called late p.m. Betty and family called and Bob. They left Kim here to visit for a week with us.

Monday, October 30, 1967 Kim here

I washed. Kim is good, been happy and content all day. Clothes dried very good. A northwest wind or breeze. Gordon didn’t come today.

Tuesday, October 31, 1967

A nice day, clouded up in PM. Gordon came and began on the wiring again. Sal called. Kim is a sweet little baby. She is real cunning and so good. I washed and made a pie, meatloaf and applesauce. Frank Pike Junior died suddenly last night.

Wednesday, November 1, 1967 A beautiful day

A nice sunny warm day. I done my work. Gordon came, finished the wiring. Fern, Lloyd called. Carmen and Betty called on the phone. Carmen had a good time out Halloweening last night. Got a bag of goodies. Kim and I walked down to Barbara’s. Kim is better of sore butt. More rested. Billie, Fern and I went down to Dorothea’s but they want at home.
