The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 18 - 21, 1967

Saturday, November 18, 1967 A nice day, OIL $23.83

I done up my work. Bill worked on the ceilings. Billie worked for Lawrence butchering. Fern, Lloyd called. Fern came up for supper. Had a bad stomachache today. I’m losing some weight now. I’m sure glad.

Sunday, November 19, 1967

Partly cloudy day. Bill and Billie put up rest of ceilings in closet and the polyurethane. Had a roast pork supper. Dorothea, Jeff, Fern and Lloyd called in evening. Dorothea don’t look very good. I sure hope she takes care of herself. Fern and Lloyd called at Dorothea’s.

Monday, November 20, 1967 Windy

Cloudy in a.m. Cleared in p.m. and sun came out, very cold and Windy. I washed, the well went DRY. Gordon came back to work after finishing camp over to Mrs. Stiles cottage. I cleaned up the refrigerator and defrosted it. Also cleaned the extra one out on the breezeway and moved it into the kitchen.

Tuesday, November 21, 1967

Gordon here a little while. Didn’t do much. I did a dite of cooking.
