The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 30 - April 2 ,1967

Thursday, March 30, 1967 Pictures

A beautiful day. They got to work early on the cellar hole. Gordon called. Betty and kids called. Kimberly and Carmen had their pictures taken by Deering Studios of Portland. I walked up to the cellar today. They are doing well. No rocks or no water in it at all.

Friday, March 31, 1967

A nice day. I worked upstairs. Gordon called in. Joe Hatch finished digging cellar. McDaniel Brothers came up and got the form in for the footings for the cellar. Betty and kids up in p.m. and for supper. Kim is staying up tonight. Dorothea and family called after supper for the evening.

Monday, April 1, 1967 Footing in the Cellar

A very nice mild day. I got my work done. Betty and Carmen came. Betty took me to town to do the shopping. They came this morning and run the cement for the footing in the cellar. McDaniel brothers doing the foundation work. RK Brown hauled the cement. Paid Joe Hatch $95, paid Gordon 100 for labor.

Sunday, April 2, 1967 HOT! Mama gone three years today

A very hot day. I got up, tended to Kim. Betty, Carmen and Jeff (?) stayed at Betty’s last night. Came up, had breakfast then we got ready, went to Dorothea’s to take Jeff home. Came home, made rolls, pie, baked a chicken. Carmen and Kim here. Mama gone three years today. Miss her so much.
