The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 14 - 17, 1967


Tuesday, March 14, 1967 Packed

Another cloudy day. Rained all day. Kennard called. I got Esther’s letter and Bridgton News off to her. Then a packed the things out of the cupboards and draws in the kitchen. Bill and I went down to Betty’s after supper.



Wednesday, March 15, 1967 Snow

Another cloudy day. I packed my good dinner set of dishes. Also silverware, glasses. Betty and children came up late in p.m. Fern down to Dorothea’s tonight. It began to snow about 4:30. Betty got an awful bill on her gas today.



Thursday, March 16, 1967

Cloudy in a.m. Cleared off. I washed, didn’t have much then I did some more packing. Betty up in PM. She brought Kim up. She left her for the afternoon. I’ve kept her all night.



Friday, March 17, 1967 6 below this morning

A cold day. I did up my work. I had to take Kim. She is real cute. I done my ironing. I done some more packing. Betty and Carmen up here in p.m. Kimberly good all day. Very cute. Betty took me to town in evening. Kim stayed up all night. Gordon came up, we talked about building, made house plans. Dorothea and family up here. Dorothea gave me at Toni.
