The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

December 27 - 30, 1966 Bills Birthday

Tuesday, December 27, 1966

Another very nice mild day. I did a very big wash. Kids up here. Betty picked them up at noon. Dorothea making preparations for the wedding now. She had a lot of things to do. Jeff outside a lot today.

Wednesday, December 28, 1966

I got my clothes in and got my ironing done. I made an apple pie and two turkey pies for supper and Betty’s. Dave took Jeff down to the apartment to stay all night. Well Kennie has been gone one week today and we miss him so much. As we always will.

Thursday, December 29, 1966 Snowed

It began snowing early this morning. Bill went to work at usual time. Betty came home early. She got stuck out here in the yard as the snowfall had accumulated so fast. It was about 12 inches deep. Dave was here, he, Jeff, Dorothea and I all pushed her out. Dorothea, Dave and Jeff gone for all day. Real quiet here all day. Bill had to go back and work until about 9 PM. Jeff stayed down with Dave at the apartment all night again.

Friday, December 30, 1966 Bill 58

A beautiful day, about high 20s today all day. I got the work all done. Dorothea took me over to get my hair set. Came home, Betty here. Dorothea and I to town and done my grocery shopping and paid some bills. Bill had a good check today $101.65. Came home, got supper. Fixed a birthday cake for Bill.
