The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

January 25 - 28, 1967 Betty in Accident

Wednesday, January 25, 1967

30 to 34. A very foggy day. Well a different day here. No kids or no noise at all. It is different. I got my clothes in and dried. Also got all the ironing done. I went down to Betty’s with Fern and Lloyd in a.m. Betty’s first day at home after working for Dr. Gauger for about four months. Kimberly fussy.

Thursday, January 26, 1967 Betty got run into

Mild, fog lifted this morning. The sun came out nice and very bright. In p.m. Betty went to Portland to get a supply of groceries. On way home she was run into by a man coming from a side street. She was hurt and shook up. Was in the hospital down here, where she was brought, all night. Fractured skull, hurt vertebrae and a bad sprain. Holly was with her.

Cloudy, not so warm. I had the Boutilier girls here all night as Betty had to stay in the hospital. She has a bad headache and back ache. She is quite worried and upset. Delores up this morning ,came home last night.

Cloudy and stormy. Bill called out about 3 AM. He worked until 2:30 or 3 PM. Betty and Carmen came up with him. My oil bill wasn’t so big today, but our mild weather is nearly over. Billie worked at Raymond this morning. Had some snow this morning.
