The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 22 - 25, 1967


Wednesday, February 22, 1967

A beautiful day, sunny and warm. I done up my regular work. Made a lemon sponge pie and a custard pie. I took the custard pie up to Kennard’s folks. Betty and girls up in p.m. and for supper.  I ironed today. In evening Billie and I called on Delores.



Thursday, February 23, 1967  Bad Snowstorm

Cloudy and began to snow about 7 AM. I done up my work and washed. Got Esther’s letter off. It snowed off and on all morning, about noon it began to snow very hard, wind blowed. Real bad storm, got about 12 to 14 inches here, 16 to 18 inches in Portland. Betty up in PM, got some water and milk. Billie late getting home, very bad traveling. Ridlons got stuck by our mailbox. Bill worked tonight.



Friday, February 24, 1967

A beautiful day, on the windy side. I done up my work. I shoveled a dite of snow, got porch cleaned off, ironed. Bill called in p.m. when he went by on snow plow. He and I move the car up into yard. I packed a few things. Betty not too good this morning.



Saturday, February 25, 1967

A beautiful day. I got my work done up, cooked. Betty and children came. Bill back to work. We had supper early. Billie worked at Raymond in a.m., for Lawrence in p.m.
