The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Tuesday, April 11, 1967 Windy

Run the cement today. A very very cold windy day. I done up my work. Betty brought the kids up. Mrs. Carter called to see Betty. I cooked a little. Done my ironing. Today they got the cement run today for the cellar. It was so awful cold and windy. I ironed.

Wednesday, April 12, 1967 Kimberly Allie Boutilier 1 year old

Still cold and windy, a pretty sunny day. I done up my work, and got Kim to bed early in the forenoon. Fern and Lloyd called. Betty and Carmen came. We went down to Dorothea’s and to Bradlee’s and got some birthday gifts for Kim. They took the forms down late this P.M. On the cold side. Bill and I down to put Betty’s mailbox up.

Thursday, April 13, 1967 Began construction work on the house

A very nice day, temperature when we got up was 20 above. It soon warmed up. I washed. Gordon came up, he and Bill got everything set out and ready to go to work on the house. They got the underpinnings all up. Betty and Carmen came up. Fern and Lloyd called up to the lot. Jim Graffam, Kennard, Dorothea and Jeff and Jean and Mrs. Brock Clark. Everyone likes the lot.
