The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 2 - 5, 1967 Carmen Turns 4


Thursday, February 2, 1967

Cloudy in a.m. and it began to snow early in a.m. Snowed hard all day. Bill home for supper. Had to go back to work. Kim not good at all. Betty had to take her to the doctors. Also she had to go. Sal came up, got me and took me down to stay with Carmen while Betty and Kim went to doctors. A big storm. Kim still having choking spells.

Friday, February 3, 1967

Very nice day. Bill worked till 3 AM. I done up my work, got ready, went to town with Fern and Lloyd. Kim not very good. Mrs. Allen came to see Betty about Kim. She helped her to fix Kim’s bed to use the vaporizer and make Kim more comfortable. Dorothea and Jeff came. Jeff got his glasses fixed. She and I went around town and she did her shopping. We shopped for Carmen’s birthday.



Saturday, February 4, 1967

Bill didn’t have to work. I done up my work. Then Billie took me to town. I had a lot of errands to do. Then we called at Betty’s. Bill was there, he was holding Kim. She seemed a dite better. I took her down some baked beans. Carmen came up with us. Fern up here for supper. We shopped for Carmen’s birthday.



Sunday, February 5, 1967 Carmen Christie Boutilier age 4 today

KIMBERLY TO THE MMC. Kimberly was very sick this morning. Betty called the MMC and Dr. Sheehan told Betty to bring Kim in and to come to the emergency ward. They checked her, tested her and decided it was best to admit her. We called at Dorothea and Daves on the way down. In late p.m. we got home. Dot came up with us. Fern, Lloyd, Delores, Dorothea, Dave and Jeff all here for Carmen’s birthday. Billie went with Lawrence. Bill worked till 3 PM.
