The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 23 - 26, 1962

Friday, March 23, 1962 Letter from Dot and Bet

Today we had a letter from Dorothea and Betty. Betty sent some pictures of the people that live in the apartment above them. I done some more cleaning upstairs today. Kennard called. Another one of those nice days. To town in the evening.

Saturday, March 24, 1962

Kind of cloudy. Windy all day but not cold. I got my work done and got a box packed and off to Betty today. A box of clothes. Also we get a letter from her with the $140  that they borrowed. She seems to be so happy. I cooked, finished the draws in Betty’s room. Fern up for supper and stayed until Lloyd came at midnight. Billie worked in forenoon, up to Chet’s in p.m. to help him, he was sick. Also helped him in the evening.

Sunday, March 25, 1962

On the cloudy side but warm. Art called. We didn’t get up till 9:30. I done up my work, and got dinner started. Got my letters to going. Not so windy today, was quite windy all night. Snow settled a lot yesterday and during the night.
