The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 9 - 12, 1962 Brand New Nash Rambler

Monday, April 9, 1962

A very nice day. I washed, clothes dried good. I cleaned up my downstairs, washed the floors. Fern and Lloyd called. We get a long letter from Betty and Mike. Also pictures of their pretty home. I got the clothes in after supper. Billie brought home a brand NEW NASH RAMBLER to try out to see if he wanted it. I cooked today.

Tuesday, April 10, 1962 BILLIE BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 1962 NASH RAMBLER

He traded with Roger McDonald, a light blue. He and I went up to Bob’s, called at Aunt Ava’s and at Ferns. Took her for a  ride and she came back and stayed here til Lloyd came at midnight. I painted the rest of the bathroom and my closet upstairs. I got a letter off to Betty.

Cold and windy. I washed my floor upstairs and painted it and the bathroom floor upstairs. It looks so nice. Dot Prescott called. And paid for the flowers. Mama went over to Aunt Ava’s for the day and stayed all night. Also we took our downstairs bathroom seat out, it run over and what a mess it was all clogged up.

Cold again. I painted Bill’s bedroom floor. I varnish the door and casing at head of stairs. I ironed curtains and got them up in my room. I frosted a chocolate layer cake and decorated it, made a salad, cooked some Swiss steaks and had Ken and Dolores down for supper for Dolores’s supper (birthday). Also we had Fern up. Had a good time. Aunt Ava brought Mama home in PM. Billie took his license up to Allen’s.
