The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 5 - 8, 1962

Nice warm day. I cleaned my room and rest of the upstairs. Got my room ready to paper and bathroom ready to paint. Map of Tacoma Washington where Betty and Mike lives came today from Esther. Very interesting. Snow went a lot today. Bare spots in the fields. Lloyd called. Blanche and I to BJHS concert tonight.

Friday, April 6, 1962

I ripped off the paper in my room. Painted that, the bathroom and hallway. Dolores came up. I got ready, went to town and home early.

Saturday, April 7, 1962

Nice in a.m., clouded up and rained hard all p.m. Bill fixed the bathroom wall upstairs. We gave it a coat of white paint. Billie’s got Arts’s saw up here, he may buy it. I didn’t cook. Bobby here for supper tonight. Billie gone away in the evening.

Sunday, April 8, 1962

Partly cloudy in forenoon and cloudy and rain in PM. Bill and I papered my room. Art called in a.m. I cooked a chicken. Kennie, Dot, Blanche and Aunt Ava called. Billie got in a car accident last night up in New Hampshire. Got run off a narrow road.
