The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

January 23 - 26, 1962

Tuesday, January 23, 1962

Cold and windy. I wrote letters, got the clothes in, done some cooking, ironed. My cord broke, didn’t get it all done. Got some more snaps today. In evening Sally called. Billie and I called at Blanche and Ferns. Windy and cold. Kennard here in p.m. Art Ward called in evening. I mailed my first letter to Betty.

Wednesday, January 24, 1962

Zero this morning. I got pictures ready and sent today. Aunt Ava called. Sent away some negatives to be printed. Sent some snaps to Betty.

Thursday, January 25, 1962

Betty’s first letter came today. She seems happy. I hope she is. She is having a good time. I was so glad to hear from her. I got my chambers cleaned up today. A letter came from Mike for Betty.

Friday, January 26, 1962 Billie Deming’s five today

A nice day. I cleaned up rest of the house. Blanche and Judy called. Jean left today for Thena’s and George in Florida. She left Boston’s Logan airport at 2 PM. Bill and I to town in evening. It clouded up.
