Mike in Germany. He was flown there by jet from Fort Lewis,
Washington by way of North Pole, about eight hours. It was one of those
experiment flights. A nice day. We watched the pictures on TV of those plane
flights.

Cold and windy. Betty and I to Portland with Sally. Betty
got a new coat and hat, also a few other things for her trip to go away. We
went out to the airport. A nice clear day, awful cold and windy. Betty was so
pleased with all her things. She is so happy and proud tonight. She never had
anything new before of her own buying. I love to see her so happy. She went
down to Ferns to show them all to her tonight. A guy who works at Raymond died
suddenly this morning.

Cold. 15 below this morning. Nice and sunny. Betty and I to
town with Lloyd. Betty went to Thelma’s to get Mike’s things. I paid her dental
bill for her with her money. Betty looked all of Mike’s things over. Read his
letters. I cooked etc.
