The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Thursday, March 17, 1988

 

A nice day. Bill reading. Billie called at David’s. We watch soaps. Betty called a minute. Brogan and Carmen called. Carmen went to town and got some things for me.

 

 

 

Friday, March 18, 1988

 

Sunny in forenoon then it got cloudy in PM. I been busy all day. Made a pie, swept, dusted. Bill read all day. Billie busy out in the barn this forenoon. We watched soaps in PM. Betty dropped in also Zack after school. Washed today.

 

 

 

Saturday, March 19, 1988

 

A very nice day. Mild, sunny and warm. Snow went some today. I been busy most of the day. I done up regular work. Made brownies. A loaf of bread and a pan of rolls. I washed floors, got the papers read. Bill didn’t seem to feel very good. Carmen and Brogan been home all day. Betty called and Zack also. Billie been busy in the barn doing odd jobs.

 

 

 

Sunday, March 20, 1988

 

Partly cloudy and sunny day, some snow flurries. I did my curtains to get ready for Merle Barker to come and varnish. Carmen and Brogan came over today for a short visit.
