The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

January 5 - 8, 1988 Poppa Home From The Hospital

Tuesday, January 5, 1988 COLD

Nice and sunny, some wind. I did my ironing. Made my week supply of cocoa. Made a chocolate pudding. David came and visited. Milan called. Bill will be home tomorrow. Betty called, she and Carmen went to Lewiston. She changed my dress. When they came back Betty and Carmen left Brogan here and they went to town. Brogan is a beautiful child. Billie’s foot is very sore all the time.

Wednesday, January 6, 1988 BILL HOME FROM MERCY HOSPITAL

Nice and clear, on the cold windy side. Well I got the work done up. Carmen came at about 9:30. She brought Brogan. She and Kim left at about 10 to go to get Bill. They got home about 12:30. Betty came here and was here to be with Brogan. The baby was kind of anxious to see Poppa. She sure put on a great act. Dorothea and Dave came. Bill was so glad to get home. He was very weak and exhausted. Dorothea called in the evening. Kim has a bad cold and didn’t go to work. Milan called. Phonie plowed the yard.

It has been cloudy all day and it began to snow at about dark. I finished up the puzzle today. I cleaned up the bathrooms, watched soaps. Zack had a interview at Howell Labs this afternoon. He is going to work there after school nights to do drafting. He may work at Rudy’s Saturdays. I hope he will like it and do okay. Time will tell.
