Friday, January 29, 1988 Milan Elliott Smith July 21, 1919 to January 29, 1988
We feel bad today because of Milan’s death. We will miss him so much. We went down to the hospital last night to be with Milan. He was very low and has been in a coma since Wednesday night. He looked awful. He didn’t gain consciousness at all. We stayed till about 11 last night. Then about 12:40 Betty got a call from the hospital. He had gone. Betty took Betty S right back also Dorothea, Susan and Joy were there. This morning early they had to go to the airport to get Norma. Kim came to Betty’s and got Brogan and took her home. Walt and Zack now sick with the flu. Milan was very good, wanting to help people. Very willing to do a favor for anyone. We love them no matter how gruff he may have seemed at times.

A fair day, not too cold. I been busy. Baking the beans, washing the floors. Betty called but didn’t come in. We have that darned old flu. Bill and I. Today they plowed the snow for the cemetery. Also dug a grave. Betty stayed at Betty S so not to get that flu. Walt and Zack still sick. We are having some very warm temps. It was up in the 40s today.

Another warm day, not
much sun. There was some. Tonight we all went to the funeral parlor to see Milan. He looked so nice. We watched the Masons services. It was very good. We was very proud of Milan. He was way up there at the top and he did it all by himself. Milan looked very peaceful. All of this family was there except Fern and Esther. Fern unable to attend and Esther in Florida. He had beautiful flowers.

A very mild day. It was very wet on the ground and it had rained so it was very soft and it made very deep ruts out here in the field. We went to Milan’s graveside service. It don’t seem possible he has gone. We will miss him a lot. After the service everyone called at Milan and Betty’s. It just didn’t seem right not to have him there. One thing I’m glad he is so near us. Milan’s graveside service at Homeland Cemetery.
