The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 2 - 5, 1988

Tuesday, February 2, 1988 Miss Milan’s visits

A cloudy foggy day, dreary. I did the washing and ironing. Carmen cleaned the house up all good. Brogan kind of on the foggy side. I cooked a turkey breast of white meat today. Norma called this p.m. It seems good to have her drop in. She went down to Betty’s and called and there for supper. Then they went over to Carmen’s. Bill taken sick this PM. Billie raked the dirt back into the ruts that came yesterday. It looks much better. Miss Milan not being around.

After a few days of very mild temperatures it was cooler today but sunny and clear. I done up regular work. Made a rhubarb pie. And worked at the desk making out our bills. Carmen worked at Betty’s. She and Betty called, they went to the bank for us. Cashed checks etc. Miss Milan dropping in. It is good he is so near.

I very well remember 25 years ago today. It was a happy event. It cleared off and quite a nice day. I washed and done up the regular work. Carmen and daughter called. They and Kim are going to Windham. Billie up to Dorothea’s with his papers. Zack’s car didn’t start this morning. Someone jumped it for him. It made him late getting to school. Betty is taking Carmen out for her birthday tonight also including in the guests was Betty Smith, Norma, Dorothea, Joy, Kim and Kay. Carmen 25.
