The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 2 - 5, 1988 Easter Sunday

Saturday, April 2, 1988 A BEAUTIFUL DAY

 

It has been a very nice hot spring day. The snow went a lot of what was left. I been busy. I done regular work, washed floors. Washed clothes, did ironing etc. Carmen and Brogan called. She is so cute and smart. They went down and Carmen helped to rake down at Betty’s. Carmen came up for supper. Dorothea and Betty papering tonight. Dennis came up today to see Brogan and Carmen. He brought gifts for Brogan and a card to Carmen and a trip to Camden. The rooms are beautiful they papered. I’m so please. They did such a good job.


 

 

 

 

Sunday, April 3, 1988

 

Well a cloudy day. It cleared some off and on this Easter. We had a delicious dinner at Betty’s. Carmen helped to get it. Kim had to work. Betty S but not Milan was there. Miss him so much. Especially on special occasions. Dorothea was going to have Jeff, but he didn’t make it. We came home about 5 PM. Dorothea called to see the rooms.

 






 

 





Monday, April 4, 1988

 

Well it was pretty cloudy, some sun. Betty and Betty came, they cleaned the two bedrooms and bathrooms. I got all the bedding wash. I did some cupboards and draws in bathroom. Zack came, he put the toilet seat on.

 

 

 

Tuesday, April 5, 1988 Rain

 

Well, we had the first real rainy day of the season. I made out the bills today. Carmen and Brogan came, they went to town shopping. Betty H called, she and Betty S are going to Portland.
