The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 1 - 4, 1988

Tuesday, March 1, 1988

 

A quite nice day. I done my ironing. Did the sheets. Carmen came and cleaned the house. First her car had a problem. She had to get that fixed. When she came Carmen, Betty, Brogan and I went up to see Fern. Carmen paid Dorothea some money she owed her which Carmen was glad to get to her. Brogan went all over the house looking around. It was very amusing for her to see a house she never had seen before. Fern was pleased to see her. Kim was better today. She went to Norway so they could fix her car. Also she got her registration and Bill’s taken care of the town office. Kim worked tonight.

 

 

 

Wednesday, March 2, 1988 Zack got his truck back

 

A very nice mild day. I been busy. I made two pies (blueberry). I got a chicken supper started. I went down to Betty’s for a little while with Carmen and Brogan. Betty had to go away. Carmen going to get a permanent. We watch soaps in PM. Zack got his truck back today. Betty took Betty S to town to do some things. Dixon came to fix the furnace in PM. It didn’t do any good.

 

 

 

Thursday, March 3, 1988

 

A quite nice day. I did a dite of washing. Checks came, sent the bills out today. Bill down town in his new car to bank and post office. Saw the programs is PM. Carmen worked 4:30 to 11:30.

 

 

 

Friday, March 4, 1988

 

Cloudy and snowing all day. I done regular work and then I put a rinse on my hair. Watch soaps today. Betty called. Also Carmen and Brogan. Betty’s puppy is doing very well. Kim didn’t work. We didn’t see her. She went and got her hair done. Carmen worked tonight.
