The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 13 - 15, 1988 Norma Leaves

 

Saturday, February 13, 1988

 

Phonie came and plowed us out this forenoon. Zack came and shoveled. A lot of snow, the dogs beat their path down again. Kassie helped. I baked good beans, did the floors, cleaned up the house. Read B News. Carmen and Kim came today. Kim misses her car.

 

 





 

Sunday, February 14, 1988 NORMA

 

 

 

A nice sunny mild day. I done up the regular work. Done rest of the reading and though Waterford history. Very interesting. Walt up for coffee. Norma called to say her goodbyes. She is a very nice good person. A lot of her mother in her. She had a good father. He worshiped her. They, Betty S, Betty H, Dorothea and Kim took her to the airport. She left Portland at 4:30, got California about 10:30 her time. 1:30 our time.

 

 

 

Monday, February 15, 1988

 

A fair day, got cloudy in PM. I done my washing. Carmen came and cleaned. It always looks so nice after she gets done. Brogan was good, cute and cute in her actions. Bill went to town with Carmen. Kim used Bill’s car to go to work. Betty called in PM. We miss Norma being here. Still miss Milan. Kim used Bill’s car to go to work today. She will use it till hers is fixed or whatever.
