Rain this forenoon, it clouded at noon. It was raining this morning when we got up. It had rained hard all night, clear about noon. Today we get the awful news that the many Marines and other serviceman killed in Beirut yesterday. Because all the foot ballgames yesterday we didn’t get the full details until today. I done regular work, washed. Down town with Billie to the bank. He sent the check to the Social Security Administration. We called at David’s and at Betty’s to see the wood. Came home, got a piece of meat cooking. Then down to school with Betty to get Kim, she took her drivers test. Dorothea called on way home from work. She called to see Bill. Also Kim and Betty called to see him, he is to be operated on Wednesday. It cleared off, pretty sky tonight.

It was sunny all day, on the cold windy side. I have done some odds and end things. Billie busy outside. Carmen to Portland looking for a job. Got one at the orthopedic hospital. Betty been cleaning house today. I watched what shows that came on TV. AMC and OLTL. Others were taken off. Special news bulletins about the invasion in Grenada.
Wednesday, October 26, 1983 BILL OPERATED ON
Bill was OPERATED on today at 11:45. Bill went in to surgery for a growth on the large intestine which has been causing bleeding for several years. He has been in very poor health from the constant bleeding for the past several years. Hope now it will end and his health will be okay again. No malignancies anywhere. He is a very sick man today and tonight when we went to see him. Dorothea, Betty, Carmen, Kim and I were there before and during the operation. Kim came later. Today Carmen signed or applied for a job at Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston. Billie cleaning up leaves in the yard today.
