The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

January 4 - 6, 1984 First COMPUTER!

 

Wednesday, January 4, 1984

 

Mild day. Kind of cloudy and some sun. I worked at the desk. I did a dite on the puzzle. Send the bills out today. Harrison insurance for the car. Bill to the Dr. for shot. Billie up to David’s and down town. Betty down to see Dawn, she isn’t very good yet. Dorothea called to see her on way home.

 

 

 

Thursday, January 5, 1984

 

We are having some cloudy weather, have had it for about a week. It is mild and nice. I went to town with Betty this forenoon shopping. We started late and didn’t get home until 1:50 PM. Bill to the doctors. Alan home sick. He called while we was down town. Billie down town to get grain, up to David’s a minute. Dawn still quite sick yet she was better than last night. May get up tomorrow. David called today.

 

 

 

Friday, January 6, 1984 ZAK GOT COLECO COMPUTER

 

This is been another cloudy day, some rain. It is mild though. I been doing odd jobs today. I worked on the puzzle some. Well Zak got a computer today. He is so pleased with it. He worked hard for it. Billie to town and down to see it. Bill down town today.
