The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

January 11 - 13, 1984

Wednesday, January 11, 1984 no school

 

A nice day after the big storm, we got about 10 inches. We got plowed out again today. I have been busy all day, washed, ironed and did a dite of cooking. Kim called this morning. No school because of the storm. Billie done the shopping. Bill to the doctor.

 

 

 

Thursday, January 12, 1984 Howard Millett died, 10 below this morning

 

It was cloudy but cold then the sun warmed it up. Betty and Billie to town and done my shopping. I looked over some records for information. Worked on the puzzle. David called also Dorothea. Howard Millett died today.

 

 

 

Friday, January 13, 1984 very cold 0°

 

Cloudy all day with snow flurries. I worked on the papers Dorothea gave me for information on family members. Betty here, Charlene here. Betty brought up the snaps she got in the mail, very good. Dawn came home today from hospital. Alan and Carmen called in evening. Kim at school, her class put on a spaghetti supper, a ballgame and a dance. She got home about 11:30.
