The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 25 - 27, 1981 HOW SICKENING SUCH WEATHER!

Wednesday, March 25, 1981

This is been a mixed day weatherwise. Well, I done a lot today. The pain left and I felt much better. So I washed, ironed, I went to town. I watched most of the programs in PM. Pat Linscott called collecting for the heart fund. She visited for a long time. Bill and Billie been doing odd jobs in and out. In PM it cleared away and was nice and mild. Carmen called and gave Heidi her pills. We couldn’t.

When we got up there was kind of a haze in the sky, but it cleared away and it was a very nice sunny and very warm sunny day. I done up my work. David called. I got ready and went down to Fern’s. We looked over a box of things, clippings, snaps, school papers etc. I didn’t get them all quite done. I came home at noon, got a meat pie to going for supper. Dorothea called. Betty came. Billie washed some of the windows on the outside. It was so sunny and mild. Bill was working on Walt’s truck. Heidi is improving a lot since we been giving her medication. Dorothea called on her way home from Fern’s and had some meat pie and pudding. Carmen up after school. Such a nice sunny mild day it has been.

Friday, March 27, 1981 lightning and thunder

It was cloudy when I got up. Soon began to rain and that changed to snow. It thundered and lightning and snow, rain, thundering and lightning are all at the same time. How sickening such weather. I did the windows and a few other odd jobs.
