The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A sunny day but the wind was blowing which made it very cold. Bill and Ilan worked on Ilan’s car some. Billie down town to Fern’s and around. I done up my work, got some clippings ready for the scrapbook. I did a dite of cooking, watch TV, PM shows. Dawn called for a little while on her way back to Pittsfield.

I done up my work, got ready, went to town with Betty, Delores went too. Came home, got supper started. Watched TV soaps, shampooed my hair, put a rinse on. Called at Betty’s in a.m. Bill and Ilan worked on the car. It has been a very cold day.

Thursday, March 19, 1981 HAIR SET, 10 above

Very cold when we got up this morning. I done up the work, washed. Got ready, over to Janet’s for my hair. She done a good job. I came home, got the Press Herald and American Agriculturalist subscriptions ready, also put money into the bank. Dorothea called, she got a lot of things down to Barbara’s, antiques etc.

Friday, March 20, 1981 JERSEY COW

Well this is been a very miserable day. Ground all white was snow, some rain, a mess. I washed windows and other jobs. In PM Clyde Rowe delivered another Jersey cow. She is kind of thin because she has had a calf. She has a dark head. All the makings of a good cow. Zak came up to stay all night.
