The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Saturday, March 14, 1981

A real nice day, sunny and late in PM the wind blowed very hard and all night long it blowed very hard. I have been very busy all day. I changed beds, swept, dusted, did a dite of cooking. Washed floors etc. David and Dorothea called, they went down and got the cupboard for Dorothea and a chair for me at Fern’s. Also a ladder Fern gave them. Betty and Zak called. Bill and Ilan didn’t work on the car very much.

A beautiful day. I done up the work. Bill and I called at Dorothea’s. Her house looks very neat and nice. Her room for the boarder looks so nice. Zak called a little while. Carmen and Zak rode horseback. Billie in and out today. Ilan and Minnie have their 50th wedding anniversary today. A lot of company. Children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They been married 50 years on March 17.

Monday, March 16, 1981 cow had calf

Another mixed weather day. The wind blowed some. Billie in and out. Bill, Ilan, Stephen Lyons and a couple other guys worked on Ilan’s car out here in the garage. I did my washing, ironing, made brownies, cleaned up the house and called on Betty and ready to watch my programs at one. I fixed chicken and carrots and baked potatoes after we got home from Betty’s, for supper. The pretty sparked cow Billie sold Butch had her calf today. A great big sparked heifer.
