The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Well it hasn’t been a very good day. Heavy clouds, foggy, some rain off and on. I got up about 7:30, got breakfast. Done up the work. Fern came up for the day. She was pleased to get out for a day. The Horton’s out for dinner. When they came home, they brought, that is, Carmen, Kim and Zak, a couple lobsters for Bill and Fern. How they like those, they both enjoyed them very much. It was a Father’s Day gift for Bill from the grandchildren.

It started out a very nice day except it was quite on the cool side and windy. I hung the clothes outside and they dried very good. I made cookies today. Billie over to Norway to the unemployment office. Bill up to Dorothea’s and down to Betty’s. They began on the SEPTIC tank at Dorothea’s. She did some varnishing. I cooked a roast for supper. Zak was here. In late PM it got very cloudy, dark heavy clouds.

I done up my regular work. Down to Betty’s a little while. She got two fowl in for supper. We got ready and went to Dr. Curran’s, he fixed my teeth. Fern went with us. She enjoyed that a lot. Bill up to Dorothea’s and then painted at Betty’s. Awful cold, too cold paint. Billie worked on the garden.
